Presidents' Day Programs
On Presidents’ Day, February 15th, Salem Public Library will offer two programs of interest to elementary school aged children. At 10:00 a.m., fans of American Girl dolls and books are invited to participate in An American Girl Tea Party. There will be activities related to each of the historical dolls. Participants are welcomed to bring their own American Girl doll if they choose. At 1:00 p.m., science-minded students can join Mrs. Kelly for An Hour with a Mad Scientist.
Introducing Searchable Salem News
Starting with the January 1, 2009 issue the Salem News will be available in PDF searchable format at any computer inside the library. We will continue to add issues as we receive them from the Salem News. The complete page will load in a PDF viewer. We also have Salem News issues from 1889 to 2008 available in the library on microfilm.
State Cuts in Library Funding Prompt Service Reductions at Salem Public Library
The Salem Public Library will be closing at 8:30 p.m., a half hour earlier than usual, on weekdays beginning August 1 and it will not be open on Sundays during the fall, winter and spring as it has been in recent years.
The changes in hours of operation are due to state funding cuts, which have forced the library to trim personnel and material costs, and other expenses.
