Akron Zoomobile to Return
Backyard Wildlife is the topic of Akron Zoomobile’s visit to Salem Public Library for presentations at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 for students in grades K-6 in the library’s Quaker Room at 821 East State Street, Salem, Ohio, 44460. Students will learn about animals that live in the wild in Ohio and how they co-exist with humans.
The educational and entertaining programs presented by the Akron Zoomobile feature live animal ambassadors and up-to-date lessons that include Academic Content Standards for Life Sciences for the State of Ohio.
Mobile Internet Training Lab To Visit
Salem Public Library will host the visit of a unique training lab that will give the public the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational experiences from March 24 – March 29, 2010 at 821 E. State St. Salem, OH, 44460. Housed in a 35’ bus the training lab consists of 10 networked PC’s, a digital projector, screen, and a networked printer. Fully air-conditioned and heated, the bus includes a wheelchair ramp for handicapped accessibility.
Jigsaw Puzzle Exchange
The ever popular Jigsaw Puzzle Exchange returns to Salem Public Library April 10, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Quaker Room of the library at 821 E. State St., Salem, OH 44460. Anyone interested in participating may drop off puzzles (Children’s or Adult) at the Adult circulation desk during regular library hours March 22 – April 8 and receive one ticket for each puzzle. Puzzles must be in good condition and complete. Tickets will then be used to select puzzles on April 10th.
The puzzle exchange is open to all free of charge.
State Cuts in Library Funding Prompt Service Reductions
The Salem Public Library will be closing at 8:30 p.m., a half hour earlier than usual, on weekdays beginning August 1 and it will not be open on Sundays during the fall, winter and spring as it has been in recent years.
The changes in hours of operation are due to state funding cuts, which have forced the library to trim personnel and material costs, and other expenses.
