Author Kent Haruf’s book “Our Souls at Night” will be discussed at the December 13, 2016 book discussion group which will meet from 7-8pm in the Quaker Room of the library located at 821 E. State St., Salem, OH. Registration is not required and new attendees are always welcome. This title may be borrowed at the library.
The story is set in the town of Holt, Colorado where Addie Moore pays an unexpected visit to Louis Waters. Her husband died years ago, as did his wife, and in a small town like Holt they have known each other for years. Addie and Louis are living alone in their homes that are now empty of family and the nights are especially lonely with no one to talk with. Addie approaches Louis with a proposition to end their loneliness. They cautiously and gently undertake brave adventures shared with each other that provide pleasures as well as difficulties within themselves as well as other citizens of Holt. Addie and Louis learn to speak of their failings and disappointments as well as their losses and tragedies which creates peace for themselves and each other.
