Each month a different book is featured in Salem Public Library’s Book Discussion Group for Adults. On January 24, 2017 from 7-8pm the selection to be discussed will be Faithful Place by Tana French. If you enjoy reading and then digging deeper into the complexities of a story this discussion group is for you. Open to the public with no registration needed to attend, along with the conversation, you may even make new friends.

And now, a description of the book: Faithful Place is the name of a cramped cul-de-sac in Dublin where Tana French’s novel of the same name provides one of the locations for the drama of the story. Frank Mackey grew up living on Faithful Place when a horrendous trick of fate drove him from there two decades earlier, but after hearing mysteriously tragic news Frank returns to his childhood home. The mystery revolves around Rosie Daly. When they were nineteen years old Frank and Rosie decided to elope to England but Rosie never joined Frank and is never heard from again. Twenty-two years later Rosie’s suitcase still packed with her belongings is found behind a neighbor’s fireplace. Frank, now a police inspector, returns to Faithful Place and all the drama of the mystery behind Rosie’s disappearance and his family of four quarrelsome siblings in various states of discontent. The Mackey family harbours long-brewing resentments, sibling rivalries, class conflicts and memories of childhood violence. During the investigation surrounding the discovery of Rosie’s suitcase Frank relives events he would rather forget and tries to overlook suspicious behavior within the Mackey family. Faithful Place provides a suspenseful and ever-twisting story that captures the readers’ attention from the very beginning.
