Dear Library Patrons-

On March 13th, the Salem Public Library closed to the public, due to concerns pertaining to COVID-19. Now that Governor DeWine has announced operating guidelines, our library is preparing to reestablish services for library patrons.

Beginning Monday, May 11th, we will start curbside pickup. At this time, curbside pickup is the only service available. For the safety of the public and our staff, the building will remain closed to the public at this time.

Curbside hold pickup is the first phase in the plan to restore library services. The next phase will be a gradual reopening of the building with limited services and social distancing measures in place. The timeline for this phase has not been set and will occur in accordance with state and federal guidelines to ensure the safety of both patrons and staff.

Using Curbside Pickup:

Place items on hold – you can place a hold in a variety of ways:
through the online catalog at

by emailing
or calling 330-332-0042 option 5
Please allow up to one (1) business day for available holds to be processed.

A library staff member will call or email you when your hold is ready.

Curbside pickup will operate during the following hours:
Monday and Wednesday:  9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Tuesday and Thursday: 9:00 am – 8:30 pm
Friday and Saturday: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

To pick up your holds, please arrive at least 10 minutes before closing and park in one of the marked curbside pickup spaces in the parking lot. Call the library at 330-332-0042 option #1 and provide your name and parking spot number. A library staff member will bring out your holds and place them in the trunk of your vehicle. For your safety and the safety of our staff, we ask that you remain in your vehicle while library staff are delivering your items. If you do not have a cell phone, please call before leaving home and provide an estimated time of arrival.

Returning Items:

All items must be returned to the outside, drive-up book drop. Staff are not permitted to accept in-person return of library materials. To protect our patrons, returned items will be quarantined for seven (7) days before being placed back into circulation. No overdue fines on materials will be charged until the library is open to the public.
